Studying military history is what originally drew me to photography. I looked at images made by James Nachtwey, Robert Capa and Lee Miller and wanted to know more. This was my attempt to photograph people who were in the military during America’s invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan in the early 2000s. Using a large format film camera I went to the homes of veterans and spent time with them. I also photographed any souvenirs and other artifacts that they might have had.
